Fall in Yosemite Valley. Spectacular, especially when arriving the day after the season's first rain. Everything freshly washed and the waterfalls roaring, the leaves beginning their color turns.
So what's wrong with this picture? Well, normally pines don't turn colors like the deciduous trees. All those rusty trees? Dying pines. Bark beetles are raging through the Sierra Nevada. They flourish in forests stricken by drought and fires. And boy are they going to town.
